The History of
Hopewell Veterinary Group

The history of the Hopewell Veterinary Group is deeply rooted in the agricultural landscape and close-knit community of Central New Jersey. For nearly a century, our practice has been a trusted partner for local pet owners, built on a foundation of genuine compassion, generational continuity, and independent veterinary excellence.

From a Two-Car Garage to a Community Cornerstone (1935)

Our story began in 1935 during the height of the Great Depression, when our practice was established by Dr. Amos Stults Sr. Fresh out of the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine—and inspired by his early experiences working on local agricultural farms—Dr. Stults set up his practice right in the heart of the Hopewell Borough.

Armed with little more than a modest two-car garage (half of which served as his makeshift clinic), a field bag, and an unmatched work ethic, he became an essential lifeline for the region. In those early decades, the practice functioned as a true mixed-animal hospital, caring for the working farms, agricultural properties, and family pets throughout Mercer County with grit and dedication.

Growing with Central New Jersey (1978)

As the region gradually transitioned from its rural roots into a vibrant suburban community, the needs of local families and their animals shifted as well. To accommodate an expanding team of dedicated professionals and increasingly advanced medical capabilities, the practice made a pivotal move in 1978, relocating to our current, purpose-built facility just outside the Hopewell Borough.

Fiercely Independent, Proudly Local

Today, the Hopewell Veterinary Group remains fiercely independent and locally rooted. In an era where modern veterinary medicine is increasingly driven by corporate consolidation, we proudly hold fast to our core identity: a neighborhood practice where patients are treated like family, and every client is a known neighbor.

While veterinary medicine has advanced tremendously since the days of hand-written field logs and house calls from a garage clinic, our mission remains entirely unchanged. Our collaborative team combines modern medical technology with decades of collective experience, carrying forward a legacy of compassionate care that has defined Hopewell veterinary medicine since 1935.
